| One of my PCs is almost dead. Windows will not boot entirely. The only
| indication of it being alive at all is that it shows up on my dchp client
| list in my router control panel. Is it possible to access files on this PC
| via it's local IP address, 192.168.1.106? So far, it is not -- is there a
| seting I need to adjust to get this to go? I am hoping to copy files from
| this machine before I reformat.

If file & Print Services is loaded then maybe.
You would do it as; \\hostname or \\192.168.1.106
If it is Win9x/ME then a specific share would have had to be created and you will only be
able to access that area that was specifically shared. If it is a Win2K or WinXP PC you
might be able to access the administrative share; \\192.168.1.106\c$
A DHCP assignment is done very early in the boot process. Being able to host a share is
done later.
By the words of yopur post, I may conclude that you have more than one PC. You probably
will be better off by removing the drive from the "almost dead" PC and placing it in another
computer and accessing its data directly.
