I'm trying to share on wifi with xp/2k/98se computers. I
have several accounts on each. Everyone says to have the
same account name and passwords on each. My dumb question:

To access one computer from another do both computers need
to be logged on to the same account at the same time?

If you want to access a shared resource on a Win2000/XP
PC from some other machine then there is no need for
anyone to be logged on at the Win2000/XP PC. You can
find this out by yourself with a quick test.

That's true forWindows 2000. It's true for Windows XP Professional if
and only if you have explicitly disabled simple file sharing.

Windows XP Home Edition never requires the same account and password.
Neither does Windows XP Professional, by default.

I now see that you guys, Pegasus and Steve, are right. My
wireless sharing is now working after fixing up some other
things. I have 98, 2k, and xp machines and each has an
Administrator account. I logon as Administrator on 98 and
xp and logon as another user on 2k since I've been using
it for a long time and don't want to try to move settings,
etc to Administrator. I'm seeing files on each machine
from each machine and I'm prompted for name/password when
I first try to see xp from 2k after logon.

I did switch to logging on as Administrator on 98. It was
easy since 98 supports copying settings, etc to a new user.
