Hello, i have a problem with my networking.
I think it is related to something i did with the
computer. I got a program (System Mechanic) that was
supposed to get rid of obsolete files on the computer. I
ran it and i deleted some .tmp file which i think was
needed for the networking.
After that, i couldn't click on the windows setup in the
add/remove programs because it was always just blank. Not
long after, my networking just stopped working and
whenever i click on Entire Network in My Network Places,
an error message comes up saying 'Unable to browse the
network.' Another problem is that in Internet Explorer, I
go to internet options and the connections tab shows none
of my connections. I try to add and nothing happens.
Thankfully, i could still dial manually.
At first i thought it was my network card because the
light never came on after that but after removing and
reinstalling the system profile several times, nothing
happened and i still couldn't get into the networking.
I am very sure that it was that .temp or .tmp file that i
deleted and it was about 19,000kb from memory. Is it
possible for the Windows ME cd to automatically recover
the file or anyway i can copy the file over without
reformatting my computer and reinstalling windows? I have
all my files on the computer and there is no way to back
them up unless i get the network working again. So anyway
to get the network working without losing all my files
would be welcomed. Maybe installing windows 98 just for
the network but i'm not sure how to get ME and 98 on at
the same time and i can't risk anything getting deleted.
I know it sounds like a very complex problem but if anyone
knows anyway around this, please reply. Maybe someone with
ME could send me the file...
