I have a web server running on my desktop system. I just added a VoIP
box to my system for phone service and now I can no longer access the
website from outside my local network.
I think I have a pretty common setup. I have my cable modem connected
to my VoIP box then to a wireless router that is connected by wire to
my desktop PC. The VoIP box has to be before the router to manage
bandwidth for voice.
Everything worked fine before installing the VoIP box. Connections to
the router on port 80 were forwarded to my desktop (which has a static
IP address) at 192.168.2.2. After adding the VoIP box other functions
work fine (web browsing, e-mail, etc). I just can't get into the
website from outside.
The configuration now: The VoIP box gets a dynamic IP from my ISP for
the WAN connection. It then uses 192.168.99.1 for its LAN IP address
(which I can get to with a browser). With DHCP it assigns the
wireless router's WAN connection to 192.168.99.199. The wireless
router still has a LAN connection IP of 192.169.2.1 (which I can get
to with a browser). The wireless router assigns DHCP addresses in the
range of 192.168.2.3 and above so they don't interfere with the static
192.168.2.2. So far so good.
I've tried changing the VoIP box to forward port 80 to 192.168.99.199
and then the wireless router forwards from there to 192.168.2.2.
Shouldn't that work? Is there a problem with the two hops? I've
tried putting 192.168.2.2 in the DMZ on the wireless router which I
think would be more like one hop although I think it is still two.
I've even tried putting 192.168.99.199 in the DMZ of the VoIP box, but
that doesn't work either.
Does anyone have ideas on how to set this up so I can get to my
website again?
Thanks.
