Hello,

I am fairly new to networking and am trying to find a way
to access a remote users machine over the internet. I
have tried using vnc and their isp's leased ip address
but cannot connect to the machine. I am unable to ping
the ip addresses. I have tried this with users who have
cable and dsl. I have the vnc listener and software setup
on ball machines. How do I connect via vnc or some other
type program to a user's machine over the internet? All
machines are XP pro sp1.

The remote machine may be behind a firewall or two. The Windows Internet
Connection Firewall may be enabled for the adapter, or they maybe behind a
home "broadband router" type device that has a firewall enabled.

On the remote machine, launch a web browser and open http://www.grc.com/ and
go to "Shields Up!". This will scan the open ports on the machine. Enter
the port number that VNC is listening on and then click on the 'User
Specified Custom Port Probe' button.
