The 2600n only supports direct networking with Windows 2000, Windows
XP, Windows Server 2003, and Macintosh OS. See:

To use the printer with Windows 98, you have two options:
1. Connect the printer directly to the computer using a USB cable.
or:
2. Install the printer on a Windows 2000, XP, or 2003 computer, share
the printer, and install it as a network printer on Windows 98, using
the drivers on the CD that came with the printer.
I use the second option with the 2600n on my network, and it works
fine. The only disadvantage is that the host computer has to be
running and connected to the network when the Windows 98 computer
wants to print.
