I have BT Midband installed, but cannot seem to access newsgroups. At the
moment I am connecting to Freeserve- but ironically I have to pay
(phonecalls) whereas BT midband gives me a monthly 150 hour allowance.

I have tried connecting to news.btinternet.com, or news.btopenworld.com, but
without success. Am I doing something wrong?

Apologies if this is not the most appropriate place to post this question -
if anyone can point me in the direction of a more appropriate newsgroup it
would be much appreciated.

Try news.Individual.net
Registration takes a while but they seem fine.

I'm not a midband user, but it sounds to me as if your account doesn't
include the use of a news server.

The 150 hours/month are for surfing the net & email, but may not include use
of a news server. Check out your account details.

You can purchase access to news servers, check out www.clara.net who do a
monthly package giving access to their news server and include an email
address.

Here's another site to check out, it reviews various news servers, check out
the European page too.

Here's a review site listing several news servers, including a European
page.
http://www.newsgroupservers.net/

You might also like to check out some news reader software at
