one of our sites is connected to head office via a vpn connection from a
watchguard soho 6 to a x700 firewall.
The users in this site are having issues accessing mapped drives on our file
server.
A logon script maps the various drives with no problems, however when you
click to access these drives the machine hangs and then returns an error
stating
"Error occured while reconnecting N: to \\filename\sharename
Microsoft Windows Network : The local device name is already in use
this connection has not been restored"
if you try to use start>run to access it, it comes back saying you don't
have permssion to access the network resource - the specified network name is
no longer available. This happens whether you use a unc or IP address
Orginally i thought this was an issue with the firewall but i can map drives
to other servers without issue.
the firewall allows any traffic between the networks and has been a problem
before. There haven't been any network changes we are aware of that would
have caused this problem.
Permissions are fine as no other users or sites have the issue.
i have disconnected all the drives and run the script again and still fails.
machines have been restarted.
i have checked that netbios is enabled on the server.
Also checked there were no locks on the shares.

One thing i have noticed is in all our sites when you browse the network in
network places you can only see machines within that site.

Help please i'm stumped!!

cheers

Craig

I looked at the master browser, i checked the registery on the server that
should be the master browser and the registry keys were set correct. however
when i used browstat to check the master browser it came up with another
server. i checked this server and the master browser was set to false.
I have just added WINS to the network today to see if that helps.
