Accessing A Computer With A Private IP Address

My computer is on a home network connected to the Internet through DSL.
Therefore, my computer has a private IP address rather than a public IP
address. Because I use Windows XP Professional's IIS to test my web site, I
need to know what to type in the URL to access these pages from another
computer. If I had a public IP address, I would simply enter something in
the form http://x.x.x.x/, but I do not know the syntax for entering a
private IP address. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you have a private ip address, you won't be able to access it from the
Internet.

That's something you are going to have to talk to your ISP about.

Getting certified in "Home Networking"? Looking for a hardware
solution? Running IIS?

You posted to a wide range of irrelevant groups, and missed the groups
that would have the answers. Try a Google search for your answer
first, it's posted a dozen times a day in various groups and covered
on thousands of websites. If you still can't find the answer, post to
the Windows networking or routing group.

From another computer within your network, use the same
form http://x.x.x.x (if you are using a MN router this
should be http://192.168.2.x). The PC must have firewalls
disabled or allow for port 80 to go through (if the
server is set on the default port 80) -- router firewall
can and should be on.

From a computer outside the LAN (i.e. from the INternet),
use the public address. However, you need to forward port
80 to the appropriate PC on your router.

Sure you can. I do it all the time. Someone else posted the answer in this
thread.
