I am trying to startthe routing and remote access service
on a windows 2003 server that is also the DC for the
domain. I am getting the error message "Access was denied
because the username and/or password was invalid on the
domain". Any ideas?

Hi,

I would check the following:

Under services and Routing and Remote access, check the logon Tab to make
sure the local system account in being used for logon.
Open the RRAS snap in under remote access logging and check the path for
the local log file. Make sure this points to a valid directory and/or
file.
If the path exists, check the permissions on the folder.

Thank you,

Matthew,

Thank You for your reply.

I checked and the logon is via the local system account
and the directory is c:\winnt\tracing. The permissions for
system are set to full.

The problem continues, any other ideas?

Hi Lan,

From the path, it looks like this is an upgraded server. Look to see if
the server is listed in the "RAS and IAS Servers" group in AD. If not, add
the server to this group.

One other thing to try is disabling RRAS logging (from the RRAS server
properties in the MMC). Just set to not log and see if the issue continues.

Thank you,
Matthew Fresoli

Hi Lan,

Both events seem to point to a logfile issue.

Try moving the path for the logging in RRAS to C:\winnt\system32\logfiles .
This should be the default location for the logs.

Turning off logging seemed to fix the problem.
I'm not sure that no logging is a good thing.
Is there a work around for this?

Thanks

Hi,

I am not sure if you saw the last post. Did moving the path for the logging
in RRAS to C:\winnt\system32\logfiles resolve the issue?

Thank you,
