We all have iPhones and it's been decided I need to install a router so my
son and his wife have access from their home. They live about 300-400'
away. I need recommendations for something that's easy to install, will
reach that far, and won't leave me weaving baskets in a corner after trying
to get it set up. Google has not been my friend this time; all I've been
able to determine is 802.11n would suit my needs best, but other than
that----? Price IS a consideration but any help and advice would be very
much appreciated. I'm running W7 64-bit and the router will be in a room
that's pretty much a straight shot to my son's house.

This sounds like a wireless question and might be better answered in
the group alt.internet.wireless.

It would help to know exactly what networking equipment you already
have. What kind of Internet connection do you have? Do you already
have a router? If so, what are the make and model? Is it wireless, and
is it used to provide wireless coverage for your own home? If any of
that is the case, it sounds like you need an access point rather than
a router. Also, what does "pretty much a straight shot" to your son's
house mean? Are you looking through trees or past a building? What
kind of throughput are you expecting/needing?

By making all kinds of assumptions, I'm guessing you need an access
point at your house with a directional antenna pointed toward your
son's house. Your son would use a wireless client, optionally with a
directional antenna pointed toward your house, to pick up the signal.
If he needs to redistribute the signal within his house, an access
point is the usual choice.
