AASIP, ADSL, CPS & Talktalk

Currently I have a BT Home Highway service, with Carphone Warehouse
TalkTalk CPS service on all 3 Home Highway numbers.

My local exchange is going to be ADSL enabled from February and I have
signed up with AAISP for broadband service - the activation date is
February 18th.

I have received letters from TalkTalk informing me that they received a
request to cancel the TalkTalk service on the 12th January, and this
will take effect from 22nd January. I expected this to be the case for
the second analogue line and the ISDN line numbers, but not for the main
analogue line number.

I contacted them to find out why, they referred me to BT.

BT say that this has happened because I am having the line converted
back to analogue for ADSL service and they cancelled the CPS service as
of 18th February. BT also said that all my BT select services (caller
ID, call divert etc) will be cancelled from February the 18th, and I
will have to reactivate any CPS or select services after I get ADSL
enabled.

Is this normal? Has anyone else had this happen? What is more annoying
is that I will be without the cheaper TalkTalk service for almost a
whole month because TalkTalk are actioning the cancellation request
immediately, rather than from February the 18th.

Yes, this is normal. My AAISP ADSL is on a line I installed as new, so I
had no problems with it, but another my lines which was HH now has my
work ADSL on it, and CPS (which is what Talk Talk is) is classed for
some very obscure reason as an "incompatible service" and so my C&W CPS
had to be cancelled for the conversion. As it takes 10 days to unwind
CPS and another 10 days to put it back you do end up with a lengthy
break. All my select services were changed but the break in service was
only a single day ( less actually 10am - 3pm ) and I was without
dialtone for about an hour during the changeover.

This seems to be one of the those rules BT are inflexible about. FWIW
the ISP involved from work was HSO.

I am an order processor with BT and, yes, this is normal as the rules
are (or were) laid down in agreement with oftel. When we cease your
existing highway installation, we notifiy your cps carrier of what we
are doing, but the responsibility rests with the end customer to
re-apply for cps with their chosen carrier after the new adsl analog
line has been installed. We only supply a virgin analog line - any
select services that may have existed on your current installation are
ceased and you will have to apply for them again on the new line.

My parents didn't have to re-apply for their select services - they
were carried over from HH to analogue.

Mike.

John - you are mistaken here. cps is fully compatible with adsl

He is not mistaken...he never said it *was* incompatible, only that it
was classed as such (and he did say it was for some very obscure reason,
probably that there is a 'rule' rather than anything technical).

Jasper,

Comment was meant in the context of "incompatible" with an ADSL install
on a migration from HH, apologies I was not clearer. I do agree it is
OK pre and post, but not in a transition from HH to POTS with ADSL.

What would have been nice would have been to keep HH with ADSL - I
really don't know why BT don't offer this, given the availability in
Germany and the Netherlands.

Indeed, I have TalkTalk enabled on my ADSL line. As well as Anon Call
rejection, and caller ID. No problems so far.

Perhaps you did not read my original post? Its an "incompatible service"
for a transfer from HH to ADSL POTS, nothing more. As I stated you can
have it before and after, just not during the change. I also have ACR
and CLID without problems on two of my three ADSLs.
