98SE Machine can see XP but cannot update

I have a network with two machines. An XP Home and 98SE. Both machines can
see each other and access each others files. The XP machine can update the
98SE machine but the 98SE machine cannot update the XP machine. I have
given full access shares to selected folders on the XP machine but when I
attempt to copy files for example from the 98SE machine I get a Access is
Denied message.

I have trawled this newsgroup for ideas and have tried a number of things
without success. Mildly frustrating as the network works in all other
respects and I want to be able to backup the 98SE machine to the XP machine
but can't. Any ideas as to what I can check.

XP firewall is off. I use Sygate now. It has full rights enabled.

you can try creating a user on the XP machine that has the same
logon/password combo as the win98 mach.

Thanks for the advice Haggis and the attention. Most appeciated.

I tried your suggestion and created a user on the XP machine being the same
as the 98SE machine however it didn't work. Access still denied for update
purposes.

Do you have any other ideas I could try?

uninstall your firewall ..check to see if you have access..(usually first
thing to do when troubleshooting network problems)

If you do ..reinstall your firewall and set permissions again..

let us know :>
