xp can easily access the files on 98. but when 98 tries
to access the shared file on XP it asks for a password to
the IPC$ resource. i looked into this and i tried logging
into 98 using a username and password from xp and this
didn't work. 1/2 the time it says no permission, the
other 1/2 the time it still asks for a password. what am
i doing wrong?

Run the Network Setup Wizard on the XP computer to fully enable file
sharing:

XP ICS - Starting the Network Setup Wizard

That's usually all that's needed, unless you've defined a password for
XP's Guest account. In that case, enter that password at the IPC$
prompt.

If you have XP Professional and have disabled "simple file sharing",
see this web page:

Windows XP Professional File Sharing

Have to agree with this post..........
"Carey,
I think we get the idea now that you have a website for networking.
Hopefully, some of the ideas might work but enough already OK?"
