I worked most of the day today on this problem. I ended up
putting new NIC cards in each computer, and tried swapping
cables around. I loaded all the new virus software and
scanned both, but nothing found. The old NIC cards were
10M and these are both 10/100 cards. I seem to need to
use netbeui because one of the old DOS based programs
still uses that. The software doesn't seem to want to run
without that loaded. I can now transfer files sometimes,
but it is running REALLY SLOW.. It took almost 5 minutes
to transfer a 10meg file from one computer to another. I
have done all of the windows updates from Win98 update on
the web. Both computers are the same now. This is
getting too weird. I have another network with Win98,
2000, and XP, and I don't have this much trouble.
