Does 2003 support 802.1q tagging? Anyone using it or have links to anything
related. Nothing much found on google. Is 802.1q even really being used?

The answer is yes and no. Yes, Windows 2003 supports 802.1q tagging, but
it's a function of the NIC driver more than the OS. Check the
"Advanced" tab of your NIC properties to see if you can do it. Many
"commodity" NICs may not, but many "server" NICs will. E.G., my hp
desktop with a broadcom 57x does not, but my 2k3 server with an Intel
Pro/100+ does.

I personally use 802.1q for aggregating switch-to-switch trunks. I think
it probably has limited appeal on individual hosts, but I can see where
it would fit into a design.

Toby is correct that it is a NIC setting. We use it on all our trunks
(1000's) and on VMServers and Blade Servers

Yea I did read about it for aggregating switches. I'm mainly looking at it
for using it in Virtual Server environments. I'll have to contact Dell and
see if our NIC's support it, thanks.
