I'm planning on mobilizing myself with the latest of wireless world,
i.e. 802.11g networking. I have a desktop computer running on Debian
Linux and a laptop running on Windows XP (argh!). The laptop has a
built-in Prism card (802.11b), but the desktop machine lacks a wireless NIC.
So, I want your suggestions on what to buy. First I was thinking of
Linksys WRT54G router and Linksys WMP54G PCI card, but then I found out
that the Linksys PCI card uses Broadcom's chipset and am not really
interested in DriverLoader. So I decided to get a Prism card when I
found out about Prism54 project <www.prism54.org> and to get rid of at
least some of the problems, a wireless router from the same
manufacturer. Now I'm thinking of SMC2804WBR and SMC2802W.
But I need your comments on what's good and what's bad in them. I heard
that there were some problems with WEP, are they solved? I'm planning to
use WPA anyway, but am not sure how to connect the laptop then, since
it's still using 802.11b. And you can always suggest any other hardware
as well, if some other router has better features.
TIA
