I have a functioning 802.11b network with 2.4Ghz antennas going 2000ft
in two directions. If I "upgrade" to 802.11g bridging equipment will
my existing 802.11b antennas still work with the 802.11g - it's still
2.4ghz right???

Yea, as long as everything as the same connectors on it - otherwise you
will need some adapters or maybe new feedlines... but yes otherwise it's
all in the same frequency range. If you check the antenna vendors sites
some of them have lists of which gear uses what connectors...

I read somewhere that one device operating on 802.11b can sometimes make a
whole 802.11g WLAN default to the lower bit rate.

this is true, hence the [non-standard compliant] "turbo" option on some
802.11g hardware
