hey anyone... iam not sure if this is the right place to post this question
but here i go. i have an Acer Aspire laptop which is around 9 months old. it
runs windows vista basic, it also has a 802.11b/g wireless LAN inbuilt into
it however sometimes it does not turn on (by this i mean it deosn't recognise
any signals from my wireless router to access the internet). also when i go
into the Acer empowering technology and into Acer eNet Manager, there are no
WLAN's detected which gives me the impression that the wireless LAN is not
turned on in my laptop. on my laptop there is a button on the front of it
which can be slid across to turn it on, so when it doesn't "turn on" i slide
this across but it just says no device. the router which my laptop usually
picks up for the internet is always turned on so this could not be the
problem (or could it?). i need to restart my laptop in order for it to pick
up the router again. does anyone know what this problem is and how can i fix
it. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
(the router i use for the internet is a Dlink wireless router)

thanks Josh.

Gentlemen,
Please forgive me for barging in. I am unable to open a new thread, only
reply to an existing thread.
I am new to LANs. I have a Netgear router sendng a (g) signal, WPA encoded,
established and functioning well on my laptop.
I upgraded an HP compaq pavillion desktop that runs Windows ME with 512 RAM
and a Trendnet PCI wireless adapter.
The Trendnet configuration utility window shows the PCI card is detecting my
SSID with 100% signal strength and 100% link quality. The data transfer rates
both sending and recieving are at 0Kbps.
I have entered the MAC address in Explorer's LAN settings in the box labled
automatic configuration script. I have entered the Admin PW in the Trendnet
coniguration window. Do I need to change the HP's IP address somehow?
Again, please forgive the intrusion, for some reason I just can't open a
window with the new question button.
Thanks,
Moon

ok, let's try a different approach. when did this issue first start
happening? do you have a system restore point from a time before
this started you can revert to?

can't help with the trend net utility. try Trendnet's website for
support on this. this newsgroup is actually for Microsoft branded
networking equipment (which is actually discontinued) and not
general support.

WindowsME had no native support for WPA (or any wireless at all) -
not even sure if Trendnet is able to support WPA under ME. In any
case, I'm sorry but can't give you any help with this.

please try a system restore. yes you will have to re-do updates, but
it is best to rule out that an update caused the issue (some
driver...?)
