Hi folks,

Just got a Symbol PDA with built in Spectrum24 wireless network
connectivity, compatible with 802.11, @ 2 Mbps.

My question is, will it work with any 802.11b or 802.11g routers/ap, or do I
need an old 802.11 router/ap?

Thanks,

Erwin

Well, based on a visit to the Symbol website (amazed it occurred to me to
look there but not to you...):

http://search.symbol.com/search.php?...4&FormsButton3.
x=9&FormsButton3.y=11

Watch out for line wrapping above, it appears your new toy is 802.11b.

fundamentalism, fundamentally wrong.

Well, I am amazed how people can *find* information and then not read it, or
the piece of info that lead them to it.

What I said as the unit I have is Spectrum24 the 2 Mbps one (the old version
of Spectrum24, dating back to 1997, when 802.11 ruled the universe). The
site you pinted me to only talks about the newer 11/54 Mbps Spectrum24 which
is (obviously) 802.11b/g compatible.

The Symbol site, (believe me, I have spent several hours looking and
searching), only gives little info about the older Spectrum24 2 Mbps
standard and will only give away it is 802.11 compatible.

I just need to know, does an 802.11b/g AP communitcate with an 802.11 device
or not?

Er
..

I have one, I can't get it to talk to me. I didn't have the PW.
I factory defaulted it, I got the setup menu, but I can't get it to
respond to keystrokes.

Weird.

Yeah, I want some PCMCIA cards. How much, and where are you?

No.

Your 2mb Spectrum 24 is FHSS. The 11mb b and g units and all new
units are DSSS.

No, they will not communicate with each other at all.

I have the following Spectrum24 gear:
1 AP (no part number), RJ45 and BNC LAN connectors, plus 2 RBNC
antenna connectors, also OMNI antenna and power supply.

1 ISA LA2400 card for a PC, no antenna, 2 RBNC connectors.
3, LA2400 PCMCIA cards with single antenna.
100.00 would make me VERY happy, but try your offer for the lot.
I'm not likley to ever use the stuff....
