Seem to have to be having a problem sending emails through Microsoft
Outlook. ISP is Sky. Problem has only just started happening.
When I send an email I get an immediate undeliverable response with the
error "550 Relay not permitted"

Anyone else have this problem?

TIA

Normally this means that you are sending emails by an SMTP server that
doesn't match the internet connection - you are connected to ISP1 and using
ISP2's SMTP server.

If the configuration of your mail program (Outlook) hasn't changed and the
symptom has just started, it looks as if the mail server has tightened up
its rules.

Have you tried entering that as a search term on Google? I get around
800 results...

Yes, it means that the server you have entered in your configuration for
outgoing mail (SMTP) does not accept your mails. This can happen due to
several reasons, usually related to the server requiring some kind of
authentication from you.
- The server might accept connections only from certain IP ranges.
- The server requires user authentication for SMTP.
- The server allows all IP ranges, but only after you have retrieved
your mail (SMTP after POP) and thus proven who you are.

Gunde

See http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ou...128331033.aspx for a full

You might want to check that you're not inadvertently connected to a
neighbours wireless internet, for example.

It generally means that the bit after the @ in your from address
is not the domain of your ISP, it is an attempt by ISP's to stop
spamming. It stops you using anonymous addresses like
(E-Mail Removed).
Most decent ISP's (you get what you pay for) allow relaying only
for their authenticated logged in customers. If they receive
complaints they have other sanctions, like closing your
account.
I have several email addresses, and had to find an ISP
that allowed relaying through their mailhost, otherwise
when I hit reply I got "Unable to relay".
There used to be a utility called Mailroam but that only
worked for dialup, but I see (Google for mailroam) that
it may have been updated. It also cured the problem
by making your localhost an outgoing mailserver.

Happens on BTinternet as well, every so often they block port25.
Thankfully my hosting company has a work around...just use another
specified port.

To the OP, if you are trying to use a remote server/hosting compnay
ask them if they have other ports open so you can see if SKY are
blocking just port 25 & work around it. Mind you I could never get
the SKY mail to work the 9 months I put up with it so was continually
using a remote hosting company with little or no problems at all.

It can also mean that the ISP has put a block on users using remote
servers via the default port.
