Hi there,

I know, I know, WindowsXP Home is not designed for server/client
environmnents, and cannot as such join a domain.

There are workarounds though, and I tried the Xteq "X-Setup" utility,
which unfortunately didn't work for me on that one laptop and WLAN
connection.

http://www.x-setup.net/

I could easily replace the OS with XP pro since both pro and home
versions were bundled with the laptop, but if I can avoid a full format...

Has anyone had luck with this utility or another ? It offers me the
opportunity to join a domain at logon, but fails in the end when I say
yes so I am left with the local logon.

Any suggestion appreciated

Lorenzo

You do not need to reformat in order to upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro:

Eventually I have to, since the OS:es are provided on DVDs as ghost
images of pre-installed environments, with all drivers and applications,
not as OEM windowsXP disks...

If your primary interest is to access shared domain resources, you should be
able to map drives:
net use x:: \\server\share /USER:(E-Mail Removed) password
