What OS's are you using, and what problems are you having with the built
in sharing, if any? That makes a difference.

You should really avoid ISC (Microsoft or others) if possible. All of
those depend on a single computer system handling the traffic. Computers
are far less reliable than hardware.

Routers are cheap and provide everything you need for sharing the
network and the Internet.

If you have an AP -- do you have a router? Or is your AP a router/AP
combination? If so, disable ICS and just use the router for sharing.
