i have my server connected to three netowks,
the internet (nic 1),
my network (nic 2),
my apartment complex netowrk (nic 3).

i want to setup RRAS on the system to have NAT and VPN on it.

if i unplug the nic that goes to the complex lan it works for me, however my
roomate cant VPN into the box and have everythign local to him.

i need what settings i need to change so that when i plug in nic 3 it dosent
stop working. (when i try and get to the internet it cant connect out if nic
3 is pluged in)

i am using windows 2003 enterprise (eval)

thanks in advance

We need to know more than "you stuck a few nics in the machine". We need
specifics of how you configured, or attempted to configure, *all* of it.

We can't say anything about the "roomate" because we have no idea how he is
setup and where he is comming from, how he is getting there, what netwrok he
is on to start with,..and what he is doing from that point.

well, first i simply tried to setup the system with just two nic's pluged in,
one to the internet and one to my apartment.

i started up the RRAS MMC snap in and right clicked my server, and told it
to configure VPN and NAT.

i went through and selected the correct interfaces for the correct networks
(the right one for the internet, the right one for my local network, etc)

however i am having problems with this as well. NAT will function for a
short time and only under these sercumstances,

the computer CANNOT be reset, it must be powerd down and then powerd back up
with about a 10 second gap inbetween.

the NIC to my local network must be disconnected from the machine, then a
website is brought up, then the NIC for my network pluged back in otherwise
none of the traffic on the network will go through the server to the outside
world, not even traffic on the box itself.

im not sure what other information you need to help me simply get this
started to working. ill worry about the other nic and the third network after
i get NAT working without a problem.

thanks

Ok. Very good.

Also, if this server is a Domain Controller, the DNS must be configured
properly or you will continue to have even more trouble. The server must
point to itself *only* for the DNS in the Nic config. I typically use
127.0.0.1 instead of the actual IP# because it will always point to the
right place no matter what. Only the LAN Nic should have the entry,..all
other Nics should be blank. Inside the configuration of the DNS "service"
you will find a Tab called "Forwarders",...this is where the ISP's DNS
should go,...it should never appear anywhere else.

Any other machines that are "members" of this domain should follow the same
pattern and *only* use the Domain Controller as their DNS Server (the actual
IP#, not 127.0.0.1). any machines that are not domain members do not matter
and will work either way.
