3 minute delay to LAN Printer

Printing takes forever to print across router.
I have 2 Desktops on my LAN connected by Lynksys BEFsx41
router using DHCP. I have a long spooling delay of 3
minutes when printing from the Win98 pc to the WinME
desktop printer connected to LPT1 using a printer cable.
I reversed the setup and hardwired the printer to the 98
desktop and I get the same delay but now from the WinME
pc. Is this delay normal?
Note:
File access sharing works in both directions and very fast
with either setup.
Both computers respond to the same Print queu and each pc
will display that job spooling process within 10 seconds
of each other.
Any help, ideas?
Thank you in advance
