Ok, unless anyone has any pearls of wisdom I've had enough and it's a bin
job! I just spent the best part of another hour. I've tried connecting to
it through 3 different PC's!
It powers up, it has the correct LED sequence, I can even watch it go
through the boot process if I am connected via Hyperterminal and the null
cable. It stops at a login screen which I have assumed is 'root' or '!root'
but both are reported as incorrect so I get no further.
If I try the lan cable, I can definately get the lan port led to light, and
also it flickers with data so it is receiving. My computer detects it is
connected to a 10Mbs network and it even gets to a stage in Windows of
asking for an IP address. I can manually assign an IP address in the
192.168.1.x range, or 192.168.200.254 but if I try and navigate in the
browser to a user interface at those addresses nothing appears. I've tried
booting the router with or without DHCP working, with manually assigned IP
address or automatic. If I leave Windows to auto assign it always ends up
as a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx address and that seems to fail communicating at all.
The 3 com program now runs, but fails to detect the router in any
configuration.
If anyone has any ideas, or knows the passwords for the CLI login?
