Sure you would. Moreover, you wouldn't need to be tethered to a wall
jack to use it. I still use my 75 MHz Toshiba Libretto 50CT with 16 MB
RAM with an Orinoco Gold card all the time. Of course, it's running
FreeBSD so its memory requirements are not as severe as Windows. Still,
if you find the laptop useful, I'm guessing you'll find it more useful
with wireless rather than dialup.
I'm guessing that your old laptop supports only 16-bit (non card bus)
PCMCIA adaptors. If so, you should make sure you get a wireless card
that will work with your box. Also, if you have only 16-bit card support
in your laptop, your laptop won't notice any benefits from 802.11g over
802.11b (although if everything else on your network is 802.11g, adding
a "b" device to it will slow everything else down). Most of the 802.11g
cards I've seen are card bus, so I'd recommend looking for a card that's
specifically "b".
Hope this helps.
