I have been doing IT work for years with WinNT, W2K, etc.
I now trying to set up a home network with Server 2003
and XP PRO.

XP can ping all and go to all net locations.
Server 2003 can ping all except XP PRO and go to all net.

XP cannot join server domain - does not find path.

Connected thru hub. Also have router & DSL modem.

Gateway, subnet same. Good IPs - static. XP added to AD
on server. User accounts added to AD.

What have I missed?

Are you running DNS internally? If so, is that DNS server set to point to
itself in tcp/ip properties so that it does not try to register connections
to an ISP's DNS server?

This article is good at explaining some of the other issues that can be
encountered.

Hope that helps!

Steve:
DNS internally? YES
DNS pointing to itself? YES - as 1st choice, ISP's 2nd.
Should I delete ISP DNS or is there a "next" tolook
for? Thanks.

Steve:

(Had flu - just now up to screen time.)

DNS internally? YES
DNS pointing to itself? YES - as 1st choice, ISP's 2nd.
Should I delete ISP DNS or is there a "next" to look
for?
Checked the support items: No "." entries. All four "_"
entries were present. Verified DNS TCP/IP entries.

There is no "Allow Dynamic Updates" under Forward Zones
in Server 2003. It does have the "Dynamic updates:"
dropdown box which I left at default of "secure".

Looking through the messages, there are quite a few of us
having this type of problem......

Thanks,
