I have a Windows 2003 server with Terminal License Server
installed on it. The License server is activated and the
CAL's are installed. This server is not a domain
controler.
I have a windows 2000 server that currently has Terminal
license server installed on it and is working.
When my clients try to logon onto a 2003 server they are
not getting a CAL from my License server.
I dont think my clients are requesting a cal from the
2003 server. How do I make the clients see the terminal
license server?
Thank You

Hi,

You may want to post this to the TS group,

You are correct, the 2003 server assumes it is the license
server because it cannot find another 2003 server that is
the license server. You must tell it what the license
server is via the registry since the license server is NOT
a 2003 license server.

here is the e-mail i got from MS on this issue...

PROBLEM:
Clients could not get licenses.

CAUSE:
There were not 2k3 TS CALs available and no licensing
service. There was no need in 2k because they were built
into your clients but in 2k3, every connection requires a
CAL.

RESOLUTION:
Installed the license service, configured the registry key
to disable license server discovery and deleted the
license keys from the clients. This will get you going for
the 90 days until you can grab some 2k3 TS CALs.
