Have a recently installed new 2003 server running as PDC.
When XP clients are browsing via mapped drives some of
the larger sub folders result in a 20-60sec delay before
the contents are displayed in right side of explorer.

The XP clients never had this problem when browsing the
same shares on the old NT4 server, the contents appeared
instantly.

There are also a few older Win98 machines on the network,
none of these experience any delay when browsing the 2003
server.

All updates and service packs have been installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Couple of thoughts:

1. All servers and workstations should specify *only* the internal
AD-integrated DNS server's IP address (probably your DC, right?) in their
network settings. The AD-integrated DNS server itself should be set up with
forwarders to your ISP's DNS servers for external resolution. See
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;300202 for more
info.
2. You should also be running WINS if you have downlevel clients or apps
that require it.
3. Make sure all server and workstation NICs are not using autosense, but
are locked down at a specific speed/duplexing setting
