I'm currently trying to gather as much information as possible in
regards to migrating from our current sluggish server (2003 SBS) to a
newer, faster one (2003 SBS R2). I have very limited experience with
Active Directory and 03 Server in general. The new server has hot-
swappable SAS drives (3 x 36G), and I'm planning on running RAID5. My
network has 11 wired clients and 2 wireless ones.
I'm concerned with the setup in regards to trying to setup the new
server as the DNS host while the old server is still on the network.
Is there anything I should be concerned about with regards to
transferring DNS right from the old machine to the new one?
1) The old server wasn't setup by me (very haphazardly) and I'd like
to simply start over with regards to domain structures and AD. Is
there any way to effectively 'delete' the current domain and begin
again with the new machine? Is it worth it? I mean, everything works
as is.
2) With regards to RAID5, does this conversion need to be done before
I begin moving files and folders to the new server? I'm worried that
I'll install the OS on the wrong drive--or i'll have to reinstall the
OS after the RAID is operational.
3) Basic Infrastructure: Internet--->Netgear PIX/Access Point ---
>Netgear 24 port Gigabit switch-->Server. Am I going to need to change
any of the configurations of these devices?
Any help or helpful links would be greatly appreciated!
