First make sure that your dns configuration is correct on all domain
computers in that the domain controller points to itself as it's preferred
dns server and that the domain computers point only to domain controllers as
their preferred dns server in tcp/ip properties and as shown with Ipconfig
/all. See the link below for more details.

Use the support tools netdiag and dcdiag when you experience such problems.
Run first netdiag and then dcdiag on domain controllers looking for
pertinent info from failed tests/errors/warning. Netdiag should also be run
on domain computers experiencing problems. The support tools are on the
install disk of the operating system in the support/tools folder where the
setup program needs to be run.
There can be issues with smb signing between XP Pro and Windows 2003. There
is a hotfix available and I would try to at least temporarily disable forced
smb signing on the domain controller. Open Domain Controller Security Policy
and go to security settings/local policies/security options and DISABLE the
security option for Microsoft network server:digitally sign
communications(always). The run gpudate .force on the domain controller to
see if that helps. -- Steve
