2 weeks to activate Sky?

Being as I have just been told that it can take up to 2 weeks to
activate Sky, I was just wondering the procedure for getting the Mac
code from my present ISP. I am looking to move from BTBroadband to
Sky as soon as my contract is up which I believe will be at the end
of March. Will it mean that I will be without BB for 2 weeks?

No it should be a seamless switchover. BT gets switched off, Sky gets
switched on.

Hi Beck
Nice to see you on here I remember you on the bt.internet
newsgroups. It's just that when I spoke to someone who was doing a
'cold call' from Sky I explained that I needed to ring my ISP to get
a Mac code and then I presumed I rung Sky to join them and he said
it can take 2 weeks to activate.

It might take 10 days before you are on Sky, but you will still be on BT
for that time. On the day of changeover you may loose service for a
short time whilst the wires are the exchange are move around.

When the MAC is processed by BT they will disconnect you from the old ISP and
re-connect you to your new one usually within about 15-20 mins.

depends on whether he is in a Sky enabled area (Easynet LLU) or not. If
it's the normal variety then it's normally painless and quick, but if it
is a LLU migration it can take a bit longer and frequently causes probs.

Lots of failed migration complaints apparently when the wires get
swapped over to the Sky kit.

correctly) is enabled for Sky

HI Lynn, Yes I recall, blimey that was yonks ago. How are you ? :-)

What happens is you phone BT and ask for your MAC code to leave. They will
make you lots of offers to stay but if you really want to go insist you are
not interested. They should give you the MAC quickly. Its a long digit
number. You then give this long number to Sky when making your order. This
connects your adsl to your house and is unique but is only valid for 30
days.
They say it takes up to two weeks, I think mine took about 10 days. I
received the router after 5 days then come the Monday lunchtime the
switchover was seamless. I was left without internet for about 5 mins only.
