What is the best possible way of preventing my files from being deleted or
messed up on a Win98 pc which I am sharing with a child.

Most of the time, I have to sit by to see to it that the child does not
come by my files. Is it possible to have for example 2 desktops where the
child logs in apart without in anyway coming close to my files - just like
I've seen on some XP computers?

thanks.
