assuming both sites are in the same domain, the key here is name resolution or DNS. can remote site ping the exchange server by name?

Hi all,
Being new to this networking, i need some help setting up 2 servers.
My first site has windows server 2003 and a domain called example.local.
They are up and running and also have exchange installed. We are getting our
internet connection from local gov so it is all paid for and looked after.
The site has the follwing ip addresses. server: 172.26.1.10, subnet:
255.255.0.0 and gateway is 172.26.1.1 and we are using forwarders for dns.
Our second site has similar setup with same domain name but with following
ip info. server: 172.26.7.10, subnet 255.255.0.0 and gateway 172.26.7.1.
Now for your help i need to create a trust between both sites so that users
at both sites can see each others folders and email each other locally. The
isp have been able to create a connection between both sites so we are on our
own private network. What i now need to know is what i need to do to connect
the two together, if this is possible and how. Do we use one exchange server
or can we have 1 at both sites? Any help much appreciated
Thx
