Why? Never seen a cable router? They have two or more ethernet ports,
one of which is the WAN port and the other(s) are either an uplink port
or a straight ethernet port for the local network, so the ports are
electrically and physically interchangeable if not functionally.

Sorry, being "electrically and physically interchangeable" was too obvious;
I thought you meant functionally.

Make that, I thought you were trying to say they are not necessarily
functionally different.
