2 questions: wake on lan and profile export to a server

Hi everybody. I have been assembling a server, in part from leftover
components, to be used as a backup utility of my own PC and for the ones of
my children. I installed Win2003 on it; our own PCs run WinXP. I'm not
unhappy of the progress I made so far, I'm not doing too bad as a
hobbyist... :-)

Here are two things I need some advise for; having seen the high level of
discussions here, maybe a friendly helper comes my way...

1.- I would love to achieve wake-on-lan functionality going over my home
network; the server is located in a remote part of my house and I don't
intend to let it run day and night permanently. I did not really find a
clear option in the motherboard BIOS to activate it. When I send a wake-up
signal using the tool "Get MAC Address and Find MAC Address Tool"
(http://www.youngzsoft.net/cc-get-mac-address/) nothing happens. I see no
WOL connector on my motherboard (I would suppose the subject connection as
it is shown on that Website is not needed). I think I am overlooking some
settings which are unknown to me. I did find the driver settings though, I
think they are ok (in any case they won't intervene until the hardware
starts up). The NIC seems to be powered permanently: when I connect the
server with a cross-over cable to my own PC, upon plug insertion the WinXP
message "cable unplugged" disappears, even with the server switched off. So
I think that's ok.

Any tips to get this working, or suggestions on what I may have overloooked
are gratefully accepted!

2.- I have configured my server as a domain name server and I am
experimenting on how to configure the rest of the network. In fact, I get my
PC logged on (good from me!) however he gives me a blank setup i.e. as if
the PC were new. I don't see my own files under "My Documents" etc. So what
I think I must do is to export my entire WinXP user profile onto the server
(and the ones of my children too, of course). I have been looking at this
now for a while and I haven't figured out how to do that.

Again - many thanks for a tip (this last one shouldn't be a problem for a
seasoned network engineer here should it!?) and forgive me my ignorance.

Now, for the hardware configuration of the server (not exactly the latest
cry all of it, it's a low budget hobby, remember?):

Motherboard: MSI MS-6367 with BIOS version W6367MS V1.3 070902; this
motherboard is advertised as supporting the LAN Wake up function! I saw very
little of it in its manual, by the way.
CPU: AMD Athlon 1800+
NIC: I deativated the on-board NIC in the BIOS and had it replaced by a
gigabit Digitus NIC which is advertised as supporting WOL PCI 2.1 and
PCI2.2!

On-board NIC should enable wake-on-lan in the BIOS, card may require a lead
from card to a jumper on your mobo, my Intel cards do it that way.

I ye olden days, to achieve WOL you needed a network card which
supported it, connected to motherboard which supported it, via WOL cable
and had to send a "Magic Packets" WOL message containing the NICs
hardware/MAC address.

With modern/on board networking, options seem to have widened, but the
last two motherboards I set for WOL needed configuring in Windows
(rather than BIOS).

Look at (dependant on NIC type)
"Network Connections"
"Local Area Connection"
"Properties"
"General" Tab
Connect Using - "Configure"
"Power Management" Tab
and/or
"Advanced" Tab
"Wake on settings"
