I want to use 2 NICs to connect to 2 different networks on the same computer.
I want to use 1 card for internal communication with billing software, etc.
and I want the other card to connect via VPN to a hospital's database. Is
this possible?

Thanks in advance
Travis

It will work as long as:

1. there is only one Default Gateway on only one Nic
2. each segment is a different IP segment
3. name resolution & network browsing is not required on the "extra" segment
4. the main Nic for the main segment probably would be the one with the
Default Gateway and also should be the first in the Binding order. The
Binding order is set in Properties of Net'Places, Advanced from Top Menu,
Advanced Settings from the Dropdown Menu,...use side arrows in the upper box
to move it to the top.

As Phillip said it is possible, but there are a lot of ifs and buts. It
is best to avoid the situation all together if you can.

Is it possible to make the VPN connection through the existing NIC? Does
that network have Internet access? If it does, that is the best way to go.

If it doesn't, then that will simplify the setup with two NICs. The
"new" NIC will have its default gateway set to access the Internet (through
whatever device you use for that purpose). You then create the VPN
connection across the Internet. The LAN NIC will have its default gateway
setting blank. This machine will still be able to access machines on the
local LAN directly.
