Hi there, thanks very much for your post.
I can confirm that both NIC adaptors are set to Peer-to-Peer only. I have
changed the IP addresses of both of these to the range that you suggested and
still no luck. I also ran the cmd you suggested for guest and unfortunately
this made no difference also. I have disabled my firewall settings for my
wireless connection so this should not be a problem.
For ref, here is my new ipconfig for my desktop, followed by the laptop:

I have also contacted D-LINK tech support, although they went through some
of the very basic questions and are escalating to level 2 support.
I am still suspicious of my network card in the desktop as I can not ping
it. Is there any reason why this would be the case? Even with software config
being wrong I still would have thought I could ping the IP address of the
desktop from the desktop without a problem.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
