Lately I've been posting my tale of woe in my attempts to get 2.6
running on a new box with a Marvell 88E8053 Gigabit LAN controller.
After beating my head against many a wall, plus a bit of help and
moral support (thanks, Dean!) I finally tracked down a new driver
that makes everything right.

Take a look at

http://ta.twi.tudelft.nl/DV/Staff/Le...inux_p5gd1.htm

The author describes his own trials and tribulations, and
points to a new driver for 2.6 at

http://www.syskonnect.com/syskonnect...ver/zip/linux/

The latest version there is install-8_28.tar.bz2 - once I
downloaded and installed this driver, everything magically
started working. I could probably even find drivers to make
the box boot from its SATA disk, but for now I've stuck in a
spare 4GB IDE drive for it to boot from, after which it can
mount the SATA drive.

So I guess the moral of the story is that if you're using
new hardware, make sure you dig up the latest drivers too.
Google is your friend.

How very odd. I've had that Marvell controller working for months
on about 10 different distros.

I'll just say I've been running on SATA for months also. Can
you throw out your box's specs and the distro you're running on.
