1mb Pipex problems

Hi, I have solo 500 connection on pipex, and I want to upgrade to the solo
1000 service, I know the service is yet to be launched but when I come to
check my line if I can receive 1mb it states that my exchange does not
support it.

Now this is the funny part, my next door neighbour and a friend down the
street tried the same test (they are both on pipex solo 500) and their tests
came up with "they can receive it"
They are on "exactly" the same exchange as me, and my friend down the road
lives further away from the exchange.

I cant figure out why my next door neighbour can get it and his telephone
line is connected to the same pole as mine!!

Rang Pipex and they said I cant have it and did the test while I was on the
phone to confirm this, I explained that a couple of people could get it
around me and they are on the same exchange, but they didn't want to know.

Just wondering what I can do?

TIA

Tony

Not a great deal. The result is based on the overall quality of your
line. If you have one poor joint it can increase your attenuation to
take you above the limit. I don't think BT would do much about it

Hi,
It could be that the line check system that is in use by you and Pipex
is not working correctly. I have Solo 500 with Pipex and i ran the same
upgrade check. It said the same, that i can`t have it. Now i know the
distance is a little shorter for the 1Meg service, but i only live
1.3Km away from the exchange and my line is all copper so if anyone
should be able to get it i should. It could also be that B.T. for the
trial is only opening a limited amount of circuits which could well be
already allocated. Just a guess

Just one more thing. Where does it have the 1Meg ADSL checker on the
Pipex site. The only checker i can find is the ADSL service checker.

It seems the 1MB checker is only open to Pipex users who wish to upgrade
as you have to provide your user name and password to get to it.

Toshman, If your modem/router has the capability to show the downstream
attenuation, this needs to be below 45dB (?) to stand a chance of
getting 1MB.

I have a router, and my downstream details are

SNR : 34.5 db
ATTEN : 55db

I don't know which is the correct one.

The attenuation is the one that is of interest for 1MB. I'm afraid 55dB
is way above the limit.

I'm sorry to say that BT will probably not do anything to attempt to
improve it for you since you can already get ADSL at 500.

I found the 1Meg checker. I could only access it by going through the
process of placing an order within the Pipex site. However it did tell
me that i would be able to get the 1Meg service from my exchange.

I think someone - kraftee ? posted that attenuation as displayed by modem
is 5 higher than as measured by BT.

Andy.
