1KB/sec usenet speed on Plusnet!

This is crazy, I am currently getting 1KB/sec download speed on Usenet with
my BB+ account, I can't even fetch today's articles for this newsgroup or
even do XOVER on most groups as it is taking too long! It took me about 30
seconds to fetch just one sample article, yet as ever that bandwidth hog
HTTP is running full tilt.

The service status for usenet shows yellow, no different from other days,
but something has seriously borked.

Yes. I am getting 120 kbps over a 2Mb connection with http and ftp
transfers - less than a tenth of what I would expect from an account of this
price and spec. You're not alone, mate.

I have ticketed them (and I suggest you do too) complaining about the
abysmal service. I reckon they are all having long holidays in Barbados
rather than upgrading their server farm. Time is approaching for a quick
exit.

But BB PAYG is not affected, so it's not the news server itself that's slow.
It's evidently the throttling of usenet traffic on BB+. I'm very glad that I
resisted the temptation to "upgrade" to BB+ from BB PAYG so as to increase
my monthly download allowance at no extra cost: I get the impression that it
would have been at the expense of poorer performance :-(

I ended up using dial up just to get any headers or message bodies.
On bb free agent just kept timing out. Its definatly pear shaped atm.

Just to update, I bit the bullet and fetched new articles, it's taken about
1 hour 15 mins to fetch 200 articles from this group and 150 from
uk.media.tv.misc (still 60 left to fetch from that group). This surely
can't just be throttling, unless I've unknowingly done something to get in
Plusnet's bad books, since I usually get at least 8KB/sec in the evening
and usually about 10KB. At the moment the connection starts out at about
5KB/sec but quickly peters out, right now it's 36bytes/sec!

Without Usenet I feel sort of blind, I usually have a look through a couple
of dozen groups in the course of an evening to catch up on the news and
gossip etc, but so far I've only managed to look at 1.5 newsgroups tonight
and have had to resort to watching some dumb TV and meandering through
websites instead...
