Hi,
I upgraded part of my wireless network to 11g. I bought a SMC PCI 11g board
and a Linksys 11g access point (latest firmware / drivers)
The SMC board is connected @ 54/48 mbps, but it appears that the real
throughtput
is far below the one I can get with 11b. All my 11b-only station are
switched off, so I
eliminated all issues due to mixed environement
- With linksys configured for 11g only or mixed mode (no change)
1/ Download gives me an average of 25 kBytes/sec (I have a 1Mbps DSL line),
2/ Trying to play DivX movies through my network is almost impossible (too
many pauses)
- When I force the linksys access point to perform 11b only
1/ Download goes up to 130 kBytes/sec
2/ Playing DivX is fine
The 11g PC is very close to the access point and so there is no signal
strengh issue, neither
interferer. The other PC (DivX server) is connected to a switch with a
100mbps wired ethernet
as well as the Linksys AP is.
What it seems to me is that in 11g mode there are many speed changes and
sometimes it goes
down to 6 mbps or even loses the connection. Both the server and the client
are XP SP1 and
I've tried various configurations on the client, including with the MS WZC
and with the SMC
native configuration apps ==> no changes
Any help would be more than welcome ...
