1152kbps downstream connection?

I have just checked the downstream connection of my Netgear DG834G, and it
says 1152 kbps downstream connection.

Does this mean my line is capable of 1Mbit and/or 1Mbit enabled ?

Then why Brian, does my ISP tell me that my line cannot support 1Mbit? And
recently they upgraded the line to achieve this....

Its only after the upgrade that I have been getting the Netgear saying
downstream connection speed 1152kbps... before the upgrade it said 576kbps

Any idea why my ISP says my line is not capable??

Thats the speed you are synchronised at, meaning you are 1mbit enabled.

Because they are using the BT Wholesale database which in a large number
of cases is totally and utterly incorrect.

Sounds like a breakdown in communications between your ISP and BT Wholesale.

BT Wholesale carried out the work but your ISP thinks the upgrade request
was rejected by BTW.

As your ISP to doublecheck with BTW - point out that you are syncing at 1MB
now..

Probably best not to, if they think it's not capable of the higher speed and
are therefore only charging for the lower one :-) Attempting to do
something that a compupter system says can't be done will only cause
massive confusion all round.

Because they don't know that your modem is synced at 1152kbps?

These things are usually based on records that are not accurate (because
they can't be accurate enough without a lot of money being spent I
suppose). My line is listed by BT as being OK for 512k (it is indeed)
but not OK for 1 or 2Mbps. In fact I have a loop attenuation of 43dB
(just at the limit for 2Mbps, way inside the 60dB limit for 1Mbps) but
at 512kbps I have an SNR margin of about 34dB so my line could easily
support 2Mbps. So much for records!

Are these limits actually published anywhere?

My Draytek shows Loop Att. of 41.5 and SNR margin of 38.5 and it would
be interesting to know what is the maximum speed I could get.

How can you find out your synch rate? Do all modems/routers tell you this?
