i've checked the linksys, netgear and dlink pages and all i see for the
super (or extreme, or turbo) G 108Mbps devices are wireless routers/waps. i
want to continue to use my wired router but run a cable upstairs and into a
108 Mbps WAP.

do any exist? if the major wireless networking producers can put out the
combo unit, isn't it odd not to see a simpler WAP (no router)? thanks

Frankly when those companies make standalone APs they seem to cost MORE than
the AP/router combos. Puzzling to say the least. You could always use the
router as an AP though, just turn off DHCP.

this seems awfully strange...i asked DLINK when i could expect them to come
out with a WAP-only 108 and he said within the year....

is there any logic to this?

I do not recall where I read the reviews (Tom's Hardware???), but the
turbo transfer protocols were regarded as essentially bogus on an
average basis, and only worked in a very short burst mode. You might
Google for information.

My guess is supply and demand. A typical network will only require 1 router
but you can have any number of AP's on that same network so why not charge
more for the thing that sells more. Just my guess though.
