I note that some network companies such as D-link offer
firmware upgrade for 802.11g products from 54Mbps to
108Mbps. Is microsoft going to release these kind of
firmware upgrade too?

these are not WiFi standards, and it is not likely this will be offered on
the MS products.

Its called channel bonding and really isn't part of the 802.11g
specification. Understand that getting one of those devices can be
incompatible with other vendors.

And no, MS hasn't announced anyhing do do with channel bonding.

Atheros uses channel bonding currently - although they may change
their method. Broadcom uses bursting. I believe Intersil or whoever
they are now also use bursting.

Unless you are doing a bunch of file transfers from PC's
within your house, that 108MBPS doesn't mean anything.

54mbps is much faster than our internet connection.
