when you see an off-topic post, one thing to consider is that it's a
"spammer" (not sending junk mail, but posting the same to tens or
hundreds of newsgroups) with a commercial reason for posting.

Yes. For under a fiver you could have separate web hosting for a
domain (assuming you have a spare domain name registered and
ready to use). You can register .org.uk / .co.uk cheaply with
firms like 1and1.co.uk 123-reg.com ukreg.com and for low fees
(eg US$4.50) for .com .org .net or even less (US$3.00) for .info
(some of the offers are cheap for the first year and more costly
afterwards, or have a penalty if you transfer away

There's a UK firm charging 1 pound a year (with a 14.66 fee for
cancelling, though it might be they can vary the amount any time
they wish!) See http://www.webspace2me.co.uk/

I have to say I probably wouldn't touch that service but the price
looks quite attractive and it is unclear how they aim to make any
money as renewals cost them 5.00 +VAT anyway. It is another
example of "buyer beware".

At 15:32 I wrote:

for the life of the hosting firm, I should add, not per year.

mistype alert - should have been 123-reg.co.uk
