Hi,

A few friends and I are renting a house together and we have decided
to get ADSL installed. I am looking for the cheapest possible 1 mbit
(no download cap) ADSL provider.

We are technically competant and have a router, filters etc, so little
pirks like free modems and helplines do not really matter.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

MetroNet, if you are not bothered about an "in house" news server, or
Plus.Net, if you could use binaries from them, and perhaps get fills
from some other (though there have been positive comments about the
news service since it was upgraded some months ago. They also let
you have reasonable server facilities, mail, fax-to-mail and some
other options if needed. 28.75 for metronet.co.uk, 29.99 for P.N

PlusNet <http://tinyurl.com/24ymz> - I recommend them and save some cash.

Eclipse are good, although not cheapest - around £32 per month inc. VAT.

Well, if you're in an NTL cabled area, you get 1.5 meg for the price of 1
meg! And it's good value. Telewest's is also a great deal!

My mate uses plusnet, but it's a bit expensive unless you're okay with a 2
gig cap (dependant on your package).

www.ispreview.co.uk has many reviews of different ISPs, that may help you
aswell as this newsgroup.

Erm, I'm having difficulty working out how £37.99 (1.5Mb with 1Gb/day
cap) is the same price as £29.99 (1Mb without cap)!!

Despite an argument I am having with V21 I think it is generally pretty
good: it is currently offering new members (not existing ones, that's part
of the row) 512 for £9.99 for two months then it goes up to £16.99 (please
check this); 1mg for £24.99 and 2mg for £39.99, no cap. They can supply a
modem or router cheaply. Read the website for set up costs etc. Pay monthly
or annually. 28 days notice to quite and, another bone of contention, in the
small print V21 demands £30 for releasing your MAC should you wish to
migrate, which is damned cheek.

Oh, I see what you were getting at now. It was even worse value when
you only had 1Mb for £37.99.
