hi, have server08 and sbs 03 in same domain with a couple of other pc's.
outside of the domain but still on the internal network cant ping or get
mail into exchange on the 08 box, in the domain can communicate fine with
the server. have been messing with the advanced firewall all week but
nothing i do makes any difference, surely it cant be that hard to allow mail
in and let me ping/rdp without having to put my laptop into the
domain.turning the firewall off seems to have no effect. i have read that gp
manages the firewall at a higher level than inbound rules, any ideas?

We need more information to help you. Are they in the same subnet?

As Bob wrote, this is insufficient detail to go on. Please post back with a
description of your environment/topology, error messages, role of the 08
server on the network, and so forth. Note also that SBS is its own beast,
and it's best to post in microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs when SBS is in
the picture. I'm setting up this reply to crosspost there for your
convenience.
