00000000 MAC and shifting encryption

I am picking up a MAC from Netstumbler that shows as
000000000000 (did i get the right number?).

It shifts at short intervals 1-4 secs from open to encrypted,
Channel 6. What did they do to list it as 0000etc? It has a
null (empty) SSID. What is this and why is it listed as such?
